On the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the founding of Ningbo University and the 28th anniversary of the merger of three schools, the College of Materials and Chemical Engineering held the fifth "Blue Tech · Blue Future" Academic English Speech Contest at the Xin Yuanfu Lecture Hall in the North Campus at 18:30 on November 1st. Dean Ding Chuanfan, distinguished alumnus Zhuang Huiqiang, Professor Zhang Zhenxin, teachers Kelly, Blaine, Kyra from Huatong Haipai, Ying Chenxiao, as well as counselors Han Hongru and Yao Yuyang attended and served as judges.
Dean Ding delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the significance of the event in enhancing students' English expression and academic exchanges. Teacher Kelly encouraged the contestants to showcase their talents and promote the integration of their majors with English. Professor Zhang Zhenxin and the previous champion Shan Yiru presented a personal showcase. Alumnus Zhuang Huiqiang shared his learning experiences. Zhang Zinan, an outstanding undergraduate from the College of Materials and Chemical Engineering and an excellent student from the Huatong Haipai IELTS class, shared her experience of publishing an article in the international top-tier journal "Angew" as the first author through a video.
After the preliminary selection, 15 contestants were selected to advance to the finals. Their confident demeanor, clear thinking, and fluent language, focusing on their research topics, impressed the judges and received warm applause from the audience. Following the speeches, Teacher Kyra provided insightful comments on the contestants' stage presence, oral English expression, and speaking skills. She encouraged the students of the College of Materials and Chemical Engineering to maintain their thirst for knowledge and pursuit of dreams, daring to challenge and constantly break through themselves, creating more possibilities in the future.
After fierce competition, Li Yunwei won the gold award; Shi Yi, Liu Xiang, and Cai Zhixiao received silver awards; Ren Yu, Ma Weiyue, Lin Dingheng, Tian Shiqi, and Hu Die were awarded bronze awards; Chen Yonghao, Wu Lingchang, Kong Fanshu, Yang Yan, Gong Jiajie, and Zuo Qiaoling received excellent awards; the team "You're Always Right," led by Teacher Zooey, won the "Most Popular Team" award; and the dreamboat team, led by Teacher Blaine, won the "Best Team" award. Teacher Blaine also received the "Best Mentor" award.
As one of the series of activities celebrating the school's anniversary, the Academic English Speech Contest has been successfully held for five consecutive years, forming a strong brand effect and achieving remarkable results. Students actively participated and bravely showcased their talents. The college fully integrated resources both inside and outside the school, promoting learning through competitions, effectively facilitating academic exchanges, ideological collisions, and English proficiency enhancement. It has injected new vitality into celebrating the school's anniversary and enriching campus culture.
